Hey guys, it's Scott.
It is Wednesday, November 13th. Forgive my voice, I have a cold. I got it from my five-year-old who is a Petri dish, but a wonderful Petri dish. But today I just wanted to do a reminder because we have a few really big things this week. First, the most obvious, Absolute Batman is out today!
Absolute Batman #2 by Nick Dragotta and me and Frank Martin on colors and Clayton Cowles on letters. We're really proud of it. I'm having such a blast on this series. We never expected it to be this kind of a hit. Honestly, we were just doing it for ourselves. We hoped that it would get some traction, but the fact that you guys have showed up in droves to support it means the world to all of us. We just got news that the second issue has sold out at the distributor level. I don't know if I'm allowed to say that, but apologies, DC. But we're really just blown away by the response. Because it's sold out, that means at the distributor level that copies are spoken for. So whatever copies they have that they overordered are the copies that are going to be left essentially for you. So hurry up, go to your store today, go early and get Absolute Batman #2!
Also, tomorrow night, Thursday at 9:30 EST, we're going to be doing our first class of the new semester of Comic Writing 101! It could be Comic Writing 103, I guess, at this point, but still. Comic Writing 101, semester three, and the first class will be Reinventing Superheroes. I'm really, really thrilled to be doing it. And we have a special guest, Kelly Thompson, the amazing Eisner Award-winning superstar who is doing Absolute Wonder Woman, who did Black Widow and Scarlett and does amazing, amazing work all across the comic sphere. So please show up. We can't wait.
The class is free. Usually it costs $7 a month, which is not a lot, honestly, you get access to our whole archive of 30 classes or something at this point with superstars and up-and-comers that we've interviewed and had on to talk topics. Everyone from Deniz Camp to James Tynion to Greg Capullo on and on and on.
So I really hope you'll sign up for the paid edition of the newsletter. But this one is free as an introductory class. All you have to do is subscribe to the newsletter, which you already are, if you're getting this, and you will get the link. Tyler's going to put the Dropbox in here. It'll have a bunch of stuff you don't have to look at, but we'll reference during the class. We're going to add to it. Kelly's going to add something to it too tomorrow before the class. But it's always a good reference for when you go back and look at the class in archive. If you miss it live, you can always go back and watch it in our YouTube archive. It's for paid subscribers. And again, all the materials will be there. So class tomorrow!
Also, Monday, this coming Monday is the last day in order You Won't Feel a Thing, the new serial killer horror book I'm doing with my incredible co-creator and very, very good friend, Jock of Black Mirror and Batman Who Laughs and Book of Evil and Wytches and so on and so forth.
It's a book about a guy who's chased serial killers his whole life, but there's one case that's eluded him. And now he's old and he's come back to his hometown because he has brain cancer. He starts to believe that this killer might be hiding in the town and he's going to solve this case about a terrible killer called the Chatter Man before he becomes infirm and dies. So it's a really scary story. It's a really personal story. I hope you'll check it out again. Final orders go in Monday. If you don't order it now, it could sell out. You could miss it. So please, please order it before Monday!
Also, our first collaboration with the incredible movie star/actor Tom Hardy is out. Arcbound #1. It's a big blast of fun. It's all Tom’s big idea for a huge space opera about this moment, too. So I hope you guys will check that out from Dark Horse.
One last thing. I'm doing a big signing this Saturday at 4th World Comics, my LCS in Smithtown, New York, just for a couple hours. Come by! I'm going to sign a bunch of stuff. We're going to have lots of copies of Absolute Batman #2.
Come shoot the shit. Tell me what you think. Talk DC, talk everything, and celebrate comics with me. It'll be this Saturday from 11am to 1pm. So come by. It's a short one because I got kids to deal with over the weekend, but it'll be fun. Thanks again, guys. Bye!

P.S. One last promo! The CloakRoom is an ongoing anthology series that works with my students to produce and publish their stories. Any paying member of the BJP Substack is welcome to submit stories for consideration in script, pitch, or finished comic form.
Your classmates, Jerry Carita & Veronica Howell, will work with you as the project’s editors and help you find the right artist, colorist, letterer, or help you refine the idea before an artist puts pencil to paper. They will even help cover some of the cost of art, if that’s what’s holding you back. This is your chance to apply in the real world all the great things you’ve learned from me and my guests (Donny Cates, Chip Zdarsky, Tom King, etc). The project, along with its predecessor, have produced more than 400 pages of short comic stories, from more than 50 creators so far. Reach out to Thorny Comics on FB, IG or BlueSky for details, or if you’re in the class Discord, ping Jerry or Veronica. And please support the current issue, fundraising on Kickstarter right now!
