So, really, really exciting day! Tonight is gonna be our first big test run of our Comic Writing 101 set up. So, just to be clear, it is not the first class. The first class where I will run through how we did Court of Owls as a kind of primer on the way a comic goes from idea all the way to the published page will be next week, Wednesday night. But just to make sure all of the equipment works, to make sure that nobody has an issue signing on, just to give you guys a chance to get comfortable with the whole set up, tonight at Fourth World Comics right after they close it at 9:15 PM EST, we’re gonna do a Q&A—sort of an informal meet and greet with you guys.
I'm posting this here to the free newsletter just to remind people who have not subscribed to our paid newsletter yet to please, please subscribe if you want to be part of any of this. Tonight, 2-3 hours before the class, some time between 6-7 PM EST, we’re gonna send you guys who are paid subscribers an email link to the Zoom. Now we've arranged it so that the Zoom webinar has all the emails of everyone who is a paid subscriber, so only people who were paid subscribers are going to be allowed in, that’s just part of the deal. So, if you are free subscriber, you will not get this email. If you sign up now, you will get this email, and you will be invited to be part of the class, and you can do it monthly, yearly, whatever you want.
But what I’d love you to do is, if you are paid subscriber, put some questions that you really want answered tonight in the comments of this post. Again, if you're free subscriber, we have all those emails on list and such, so sign up first before you post your question. I'm also gonna try and do a bit of a Hand Raise thing during the session itself so we have a little bit of live interaction. But just because there's so many more people than we ever expected taking this class, we figure having a few questions ahead of time like this from you guys would ease the whole format and make it a lot better for everyone involved.
I can’t wait to get going. Again, if you want to just make sure everything works for you, if you're unfamiliar with Zoom, or if you just feel like getting a Q&A because, just to be clear, the class itself is going to be more of a masterclass. I’m gonna walk through a topic of comic craft, characterization, character arcs, plot conflict vs emotional conflict, cliffhangers, openings, all kinds of stuff. But I'm gonna really try my best to give you more than your money's worth every session by packing it full of information and examples.
So, we will have a little bit of Q&A at the end, but I'm doing four live streams throughout the course of the year (those are for annual subscribers). That's where you really get to ask your questions and I'll do my best to transparently answer as many as possible. You can ask me anything about my comics, about craft, about the industry, about anything you want. But tonight is one of those special extras. It's not one of the four live streams, but it's a chance to ask your questions and to interact as opposed to being in class where I’m explaining and walking through things and giving you examples of why I think certain books have set a high bar with different techniques and comic craft.
