Hello, Professor Snyder! How do you stay true to your story in this age of political correctness? I'm currently writing a western in a similar vein as Tarantino's Django(But with much less racial slurs) and I fear that some may deem it to be politically incorrect despite the fact that I am a Native American myself and have the intention of telling a MOSTLY historically accurate and heartfelt story. It's about a half-bread Apache runaway turned deputy sheriff who must confront her traumatic past when a confederate invasion threatens to destroy her town and kill her loved ones. I fear that some may think my comic villainizes Native Americans while in actuality I'm trying to write a story that shows all of mankind are capable of both good and evil, this includes Native Americans, Confederates and Union army soldiers. I figure it's called the Wild West for a reason... Thank you for providing us with your expertise as always!

I’d love to hear about a mistake you learned from. Is there a mistake that, after you learned its lesson, made you a better creator?

Hello. What do you do when you hit the wall with your writing ? How do you keep your characters from getting passive or reactive ?

Hey Scott,

With some class members launching their kickstarter, some of us have started meeting on a server for students of your class to discuss another anthology comic collection on discord at https://discord.gg/k8Kx4VRC - Server Name: The Tankard. Can you please shout this out at some point during tonight's class so any students wanting to collab can start to get to know each other?

Best,

Logan

Hi Scott! When mapping out a new project, how do you avoid overplanning? Have you ever made major plans for a project and then reversed course once you dove into writing the series or after seeing your artist's output?

Hi, Scott. When looking to collaborate with new artists, what are some things you look for when reviewing their portfolios and comic samples? Thanks and cheers!

Scott, my question is how professional/casual can you be in the comic field? Especially now when the companies are owned by this huge corporations.

What a great observation on the current style of concert festivals Scott. Never realized how it is a more pick and choose kind of experience instead of the old model of an artists having full control of the venue. I agree it is quite modern. And in my experience a lot more tiring compared to old concert going lol

The first call con I ever attended as a fan was 13 years ago. At the time I had a superhero short film in an online competition, and, not knowing better, I asked the star attraction of the con—Mark Millar—if I could plug it. As my question at his panel. I was understandably greeted by boos from the audience, and to his credit, Millar obliged, but I’ve been terrified taking this class that when I’m ready to take my work somewhere that story’s going to follow me around and disqualify me from being considered. So on an individual level, is my concern justified? In a broader sense, what’s the biggest breach of con etiquette you ever made and if you know, what did it cost you? Is it just a funny story you tell people these days, or an actual cautionary tale?

Hola Scott!

In the past I’ve heard Guillermo Del Toro talk about how for many of his films he does a story bible. During the pitching class with Will Dennis he mentioned how a young Steve Orlando and Donny Cates would approach him with pages or written material done at cons. My two part question is:

What does a story bible contain? And for someone who is not Guillermo, is pitching first with a story bible proper etiquette or considered too much?

Gracias!

Hi there. What time will you be signing for paid subscribers in WA? Also, I think there was a typo where you said you’d be there on Friday. It’s Saturday and Sunday only, right?

Hey, Scott. What's the biggest mistake you or those you know have made when preparing a pitch to an editor or publisher? What's a big mistake to make WHILE pitching?

Hi Scott, I didn't know you were going to be at Washington State Summer Con on Friday. That's great to hear because it's the only day I can go. You didn't post your Friday schedule. When is the signing time for paid subscribers and how do I prove that I am one?
