This is just so freaking inspiring! When I first read the first few issues of American Vampire and saw Stephen King's credit on the cover, I had to double-take that at least three times. Now to see the story behind how he wound up in this area of pop culture is so awesome. Thank you so much for sharing this incredible story! Every single post of yours drives me to continue to write more and more.
Voodoo Heart remains one of my favorite collections of short stories. Troubling, moody, and just this much hopeless romantic. I’ve loaned my copy out or bought new ones for people when they were looking for something to read. I always say, in a bit of a whisper, as I hand off the book, “the last story broke my heart.”
American Vampire was one of the first series I really got into when I was getting back into comics, so while I'm sad to see it end, I think you wrapped things up nicely. Also, really digging the podcast/transcript format, I always love behind the scenes type content.
Really interesting hearing all the nuts and bolts of your career, American Vampire came out at such a great time. I remember a lot of people being tired of all the vampire hype mostly off of Twilight but AV quickly became a must read for me, really great work
I really like the podcast/newsletter format! It's cool to read along with you and see the pictures of what you're talking about. Really interesting posts so far, thanks for doing this!
Another great post! I have heard you tell that part of your story before, where you were unhappy writing prose and were really excited about writing comics. That is so cool that your wife was so supportive. With your 90 creator owned comics coming out soon, it looks like that paid off.
American Vampire was the series that helped me realize that I needed to write a comic before I died. Thanks for sharing both a fantastic comic and the story behind it.
This was cool to read, I love AV. I've been holding off on reading 1976 until it was done so I could read it all at once (monthlies are not so fun to read, I always forget what's going on).
When were you teaching at NYU and what did you teach? I worked there for most of the 00s.
I absolutely love your work. American Vampire is actually one of the only, and is by far my favorite story and comics that is about vampires and vampire lore. You are one of my all time favorite writers. For a short time in my late teens I stopped reading and collecting comics, but what brought me back to it all was when I was at a library and I was looking for different books to read, picking up Vonnegut Jr: Breakfast for Champions, Harris: Red Dragon, and Herbert: Dune, I don't remember which one in the series, but I walked by some graphic novels that the library had and I seen Batman The court of Owls and Death of the Family, and I picked them up and read a little an check it out, I went straight home and literally read both of them in a hour, I absolutely loved it, and right there I knew I had to read more of it. Then it grew to the point, what else does has he wrote, and I picked up everything and I was just blown away, loved everything you write. Your work has been a great inspiration for me to even pick back up writing , I forgot how exhilarating that form of art is. Now My brother and I have been working on our comic an story, and I hope one day I can be an inspiration as you have been for me. Thank you Scott Snyder.
Can't wait for another amazing podcast like this one!
Really appreciate you sharing that moment of your life with us. Very inspiring.

I like the depiction of AV as not a vampire western, but as a look at American history through two juxtaposed lenses/ideals
