Hey guys, it’s Scott.

If you’re like me and have subscriptions to my friends over here on Substack, you’ve probably been seeing emails like this all day, but in case you haven’t, I’m thrilled to announce that all Substack newsletters (like the one you’re reading right now) are available on the iOS app as of today! Check out the snazzy preview of what Our Best Jackett is going to look like:

And for Android users like myself, don’t worry - the Android version of the app is fast approaching! There’s even a waitlist page that you can use to get alerted as soon as the Android app is ready. For more info on all of this stuff, click on the preview image or watch the great comprehensive video that Substack uploaded!

But this new app is going to be a great way for readers to check out everything we have to offer, which means that I should take the opportunity to reintroduce myself and this newsletter of ours:

Hi, I’m Scott Snyder. I wrote some comics you might’ve read like Batman, Dark Nights: Metal & Death Metal, Wytches, Justice League, and American Vampire.

This is Our Best Jackett, the newsletter home of all things produced by Best Jackett Press, which is the comics imprint I established in 2020 to publish stories like Nocterra, We Have Demons, Night of the Ghoul, Clear, and a whole bunch more coming in the next few years. My main goal with this newsletter is to take all of the craft and technique info that I’ve been fortunate enough to build over my years in the comics industry and impart it on you, the reader. If you’ve ever wanted to create your own comic stories, look no further than Comic Writing 101, an annual online class found within this very newsletter. More info on all this can be found here:

Newsletter #5: ANNOUNCING “SCOTT SNYDER’S COMIC WRITING 101!”
THE WHO: Finally, here we go! So first, who am I? Well, my name is Scott Snyder and I’m a #1 New York Times bestselling and multi-Eisner and Harvey Award-winning comic book writer. For the last decade, I’ve written some of DC Comics’ biggest titles, from…

I’ve had the privilege of hosting seven classes so far, covering topics from opening to three-act structure to characterization, and along the way I’ve been lucky enough to have guests join the meetings—folks like Greg Capullo…

Donny Cates…

and Chip Zdarsky…

And there’s plenty more fun to come! The class is totally asynchronous, so every session is fully archived for all newcomers to access. And for our Annual tier subscribers, we’ve also started doing Q&A sessions over on our dedicated class Discord server! We just did our first one last month, and it was so fun that I’m trying to do one this month as well, so make sure to sign up for the discounted Annual plan (saving you 10% overall) to get access to those.

And that’s about it! Be on the lookout over the new two days for a two-part interview I just conducted with my Black Mirror and Night of the Ghoul collaborator, the great Francesco Francavilla! The one going up tomorrow is a fun general conversation we had about Batman and our work together, and that’ll be for all readers, free or paid. Then on Friday we’ll be putting up the second part of the interview focusing on technique and craft, which’ll be for the paid subscribers looking for more in-depth questions and answers from us.

Okay, that’ll all from me! Check out the new app, let us know what you think, and for all new students and readers, welcome! I’ll be seeing you all at the same bat time, same bat app ;)

P.S. I also want to give a shoutout to all the other great folks making content on Substack.

Grant Morrison, a friend and a mentor to me, has been giving some great behind-the-scenes insight on Superman and the Authority and their time at DC over on Xanaduum:

Xanaduum

The project of a lifetime!

Brian K. Vaughan, another good friend, launched the amazingly explicit and thought-provoking Spectators with Niko Henrichon, his co-creator on Pride of Baghdad (which was edited by resident BJP editor Will Dennis!):

Tom King (nerd) and Elsa Charretier are blowing me away with their romance deconstruction comic Everlasting Love, and as a bonus, Tom’s been putting up his scripts great stuff of his like Batman and Rorschach, so check that out:

Join our newsletter and get free access to our new ongoing series, Love Everlasting as well as an exclusive look at the art of creating comics.

Jeff Lemire’s doing a new Black Hammer along with an amazing original comic, Fishflies, on his. And check out the great Q&A he just posted today:

Kelly Thompson—I’ve been reading Black Cloak and it's fantastic. It's so good. It's like a really interesting blend of fantasy and noir:

Oh yeah, and some guy who’s writing Red Batman and Grey Daredevil has one too. He’s got original content there as well, which I’ve heard is alright I guess:
