When I write I try to make every page turn an answer to a cliffhanger. This way you compel the reader to turn every page until the end. The end of a book cliffhanger, I try to tie to important points in the character’s emotional arc. I build the plot up to make it toughest on the character’s emotion and leave the reader wondering what they will do or what will happen. (I had no idea what an emotional arc was before this class. Thanks Scott!!)

Scott, while I don't want to give anything away, in my upcoming HELLFIRE comics series, I make a point to have full stories with cliff hangers & tension throughout. HELLFIRE was a brutally murdered preacher. He was beaten, stabbed with an artifact (The Spear of Destiny), put in his car, set on fire) rolled out onto the frozen Mahoning River - from which he rose 3 days later, having passed through the veil. Now he stalks all of them who're associated with his murder. When the mobster who sent his nephews to to deed realizes who it is seeking divine justice, the people whom the resurrected Rev. Benny Blue (now HELLFIRE) loves lives are at risk...
I will also tell you that at the end of each issue, I've made a narrative box that read the words "IT GETS WORSE." ...'cause it does.
*The flipbooks containing HELLFIRE 1-5 + ANNUAL 1, SMALLDOG 1-3, HOLY GHOST EXORCIST 1-2, & PHUKET MAMA 1 will begin printing NOV 2026. That is the first season. If these books make enough money to finance the 2nd &/or 3rd seasons they'll become a reality. They're extremely violent. The subject matter is chalked full of dark themes. There are small homages paid to franchises that I enjoy, such as, Scarface, Taxi Driver, etc. My pitch for the series is the same as my extreme horror books - that have an audience. "If you are offended by anything, don't read these books." Obviously that does 2 things - draws in a certain crowd & causes people who wouldn't enjoy it to stay away. Both are wins.
People who like movies like: Lights Out, Frailty, The Crow, Se7en, & Red Dragon will likely love this series to a degree that cannot be verbalizes. Regardless, of what happens with sales, I am in the early stages of writing a book docketed for 2028 that ties into this world. FYI: This world is tied to my primary literary universe too. I overthink everything.
Stoked! Read through Endgame (the vols. 6&7 of when you were on Batman) and thought the ending on Endgame was really interesting and surprising (reminded me some of Knightsend?) and find endings in storytelling incredibly interesting so 100% intend to be there Wednesday🙏
