I have to say the design of Absolute Two Face as such a pretty boy is perfect because it reminds me of Lucifer. And I love how Absolute Bruce has such a babyface because that contradiction is so interesting. As for the Robins, I unfortunately have been unlucky enough that my two favorites have been Steph Brown and Jason Todd, both which are hilarious and poor utilized. I have so much faith in you but I am also so worried about how Jason will be written or drawn (why do people draw him like an ugly 40 year old?) Jason is frequently reduced to “the angry Robin,” but that flattens what’s actually compelling about him. He’s a contradiction: a kid who loved books, structure, and learning, family but grew up on the streets and was shaped by systems that failed him. He wasn’t hardened by that—he stayed open, empathetic, and deeply protective of others. And so the tragedy to me is that he believed in being saved. He believed in Bruce—not just as Batman, but as a DAD. And when that relationship broke, it didn’t turn him into a simple villain. It turned him into someone who still tries to do good, just without the same faith in the rules. I found it always unbelievable that finding out Jason is alive has Batman try to kill him. As a father, I feel like your reaction to your son being killed and appearing again would be very different ?
I hope there is still nuance regarding Jason since what makes Jason interesting isn’t his anger—it’s that he still cares, even when it costs him. Reducing him to a reckless or doomed figure makes him smaller. Letting him exist as both damaged and deeply compassionate makes him unforgettable and also hilarious when they have him joking. It’s why Arkham Knight was so powerful, why the reveal in the comic series was so epic because no one expected this kid who said things like Robin is Magic and quoted literature to be Red Hood. And why I hate when people write him as a dumb bruiser. I am really really excited to see your take but am afraid of being burned again - and I hope Jason is a young cute boy here ! Do you have hints you can drop to reassure people who love Steph Brown or Jason (those two are hilarious) that their hearts won’t be broken?
Side note: I think it is such a smart idea to make the characters actually appealing to women both in looks and depth, that demographic has been buying up books like crazy in my store and the fanart they do is so good. If we can get girls who has the intensity of Kpop fans into comics, I think DC will be assured of financial success for decades. Bring on all the pretty boys you can hahah.
