It is Monday, March 16th. Really quick, first, Wednesday we are going to be doing a class. It’s going to be about doing big comic events and the special guest will be Joshua Williamson. Really excited about it. It will be talking a lot about what it takes to do a big comic event, not just on the page, but also outside on the coordination it takes, the triangulation with the market all kinds of stuff, so it should be great. Josh is not only a dear friend but a beating heart of comics. He’s a superstar but also someone who’s one of the smartest people i know about the business so I’m really excited to have him on.
That’ll probably be about 9:00pm EST. We’ll send out an invite Wednesday, but tell your friends. It should be fun. All you have to do is be a paid member of Best Jackett. It’s $7/month or $75/year. Forgive me and my terrible voice. I’m a little beaten up. I was just down in La Mole in Mexico City with Jock and Greg Capullo and Frank Martin, the amazing colorist on Absolute Batman. And it was such a blast, man. I got to say, it’s my second time at La Mole and I just love it.
Mexico City is amazing. It’s so exciting and rich and vibrant and the fans there are just so passionate and generous. I mean, it was just wild. I signed like, all day, every day and I can’t say enough good things about that convention. So I can’t wait to go back. And huge thanks to everybody there for a great time.
I’m off to MegaCon this coming weekend and then WonderCon the next weekend. And then I’m off cons for a while. This month is nuts. So yeah, if you’re going down to Orlando, I’ll be there with a whole bunch of other great creators, including Jock and Greg Capullo and Joshua Williamson next week. So I hope you’ll check it out. I do a 10ish minute line just for people in the paid tier so it’s worth it just for that honestly because the lines these days have been kind of nuts, so I hope you’ll join up.
Also, really quick, I just wanted to say thank you guys. The incredible support for Absolute Batman is just overwhelming to me and Nick. We really believe that our best issues are coming. I mean, I think #19 stands with our very best.
It’s the beginning of our Scarecrow arc. It also deals with the concept of Robin. It’s got Deathstroke in it. It’s got new vehicles. It’s got big upsets. And that’s pretty much like, all in the first issue. But it continues to get bigger and wilder as we go. It’s also a deeply, deeply emotional arc for Bruce and his friends. So I really hope you’ll check it out. The Final Order Cut-Off got bumped a week, so it’s a week from today. So you still have time to order, but the orders are pretty nuts. I guess they reached the maximum amount of retailer variants they can do for a book like this, just for the system to be able to handle it at DC. So we expect some pretty big sellout numbers. We’re really thrilled. The last issue was over 300,000, which again is just, I mean, beyond mind boggling to me and Nick that that’s the level at which you’re buying this book up. It means the world to both of us. And the only thing we can say is that our thank you to you is to just devote every bit of energy we have to making it the best we can. And we are really having a blast. I mean, Nick said it best that it’s like, “good morning, Nick!” “Good night, Scott.” Like, we’re on the phone all the time working on this thing and we just love it. I mean, it’s such a fun gig. So I can’t thank you enough. That’s it. Just a quick newsletter. I’ll do a longer one towards the end of the week. I cannot wait for this to come out, I read the first few scripts and there’s so much love for the source material in there. Josh is a dyed-in-the-wool Universal Monsters horror fan, and he takes this book in some awesome, bloody directions. Seriously, do not miss this one, I think it’s something really special. It’s got art by his Rogues artist Leomacs with colors by Pip Martin and Skybound is putting it out starting this June. Go pre-order it ASAP!!
